Saracens have gone back to the future with Brendan Venter taking over as director of rugby from the man who replaced him in 2011, Mark McCall.

It was Venter who shook off the inconsistency that had bedevilled Sarries since the onset of professionalism and laid the foundation for success in the Premiership and Europe.
Venter has acted in an advisory capacity for the last 15 years, a role that will now be filled by McCall to maintain the continuity that has been a feature of the club in the last 17 years.
