Jason Gilmore threatened to wield the axe after Harlequins’ play-off hopes were all but ended by a shambolic 43-17 defeat at Sale Sharks.
Quins led 17-12 at the CorpAcq Stadium on Boxing Day but threw in the towel after the break to ship five more tries and 31 unanswered points.
