The 28-cap Ireland scrum-half, who joined the Bears from Connacht two years ago, has a key role to play with Harry Randall unlikely to play again this year as he recovers from hamstring surgery.
The Bears were missing 17 players for Friday night’s trip to Gloucester, most of them backs.
“It is really weird,” said the 33-year old Marmion, who was part of Connacht’s title winning team in 2016 when Pat Lam, now Bristol’s director of rugby, was head coach.
