Exeter head coach Rob Hunter admitted he and his team were left ‘gutted’ after a spirited second-half fightback saw them fall just short.
“It’s a really hard one to sum up,” said Hunter. “I’m really pleased with the performance on the whole, but also gutted that we didn’t quite get it over the line.
“We had three or four opportunities that went begging. The key thing is that you have got to know how to keep creating those opportunities.
“We know where we want to be. It is a pretty steep incline, but we are taking some big steps up it very quickly.
“Bath are such a difficult challenge, the standard to aspire to at the moment. When you are playing great teams, that’s when you learn the most, a bit like when we used to come up against Saracens.
“I think we have improved massively over the last couple of weeks, and I’m so excited to keep pushing forward with this group.”
