Pat Lam was unhappy with the refereeing of Jack Makepeace as his Bears endured another difficult Premiership defeat and were unable to stop Saracens picking up their eighth successive win of the campaign.
The Bristol boss was clearly frustrated by the constant pinging of his side by the official at Ashton Gate and claimed: “We got killed by the referee. I think the penalty count was about 15-5 and the boys have come off frustrated.
“Sarries are a good side and it is very difficult to play against them. But, unfortunately the discipline thing cost us with Goode kicking all those penalties. Once they get ahead you are chasing the game.
“We were missing a lot of quality with players injured or on Test duty but I was pleased with the young guys, who came in to replace them, put so much effort and energy into the contest. Despite losing the game there were some positives to take out of it and we need to go back, work hard and make sure we put things right in training this week.”
