DURHAM opened up their campaign at Billingham with a hard-fought 43-34 win against Notts, Lincs and Derbys. The win gives them early leadership of Pool 1, with the losers now needing to beat the other side in the group – North Midlands – next week in order to stay in the competition.
Durham led 24-21 at halftime, hooker Jack Yarrow of Consett notching a brace. And, with just under half hour to play, the visitors fought back brilliantly as they scored 13 unanswered points – but Durham rallied to excellent effect.
