Cumbria prevailed in a ferocious encounter at Aspatria – but missed out on a semi-final spot due to events in the Midlands.
They started in brilliant fashion, Jamie Mc-Naughton finishing off a move which he had started, getting on the end of a pass from Aaron Phillips.
Durham were also harbouring hopes of a last four spot and soon bared their teeth, Martin Hopley scoring after the defence was twice turned by kicks in behind.
