Ireland’s Rob Kearney stays for another year

Rob Kearney pens a deal til the end of 2019-20

full-back Rob Kearney has agreed a contract extension tying him to the IRFU until the end of next season.

The news means Kearney, 33, will likely edge towards a century of caps for and add to his impressive trophy haul.

He already boasts two Grand Slams (2009 and 2017), five league titles and four European Cups.

He was also an integral part of the first-ever Irish side to conquer the , as well as a successful Lion in 2013.

The full-back said: “I am feeling pretty good about where I am physically and mentally after a long season which has contained a few lows but also some massive highs.

“There are goals I still want to achieve with both Leinster and Ireland next season but, I will enjoy a couple of weeks off now before getting stuck into what will be a hugely exciting season for Irish .”

He debuted for Leinster fourteen years ago and has since run out for them a further 208 times.

IRFU Performance Director, David Nucifora, commented: “Rob has contributed a huge amount to Irish Rugby and has performed at a high level again this year for Ireland and Leinster.

“We are delighted that he will continue his career in Ireland in what will be his fifteenth season as a senior pro.”
