Among the many social media comments on the appointment of Richard Collier-Keywood as the new chair of the Welsh Rugby Union was this corker: “He’s a step up from a geography teacher.”
That does Rob Butcher a disservice for his two-year stint as chair between 2020-22 and it was he who launched the move to introduce an independent chair. Current incumbent Ieuan Evans picked up the cudgel and got the backing of the clubs to finally make the change and last week he was able to introduce his successor.
