The first, on a wintry mid-March evening, won him a bravery award for rescuing a mother and baby from the Taff in full flood.
The second took him to within ‘a millimetre’ of being paralysed for life, the third meant serving 12 months of a three-year sentence at the high-security unit of a young offenders’ prison.
