Nick Cain: ‘Project Shaun Edwards’ must be activated

In the last week, in the absence of any formal statement from the French Federation de Rugby (FFR), or France head coach Fabien Galthie concerning the future of Shaun Edwards as defence coach, it has been mooted that negotiations to end his contract 18 months early have been made more complex.

 

The paranoia surrounding coaches leaving one international camp and moving to another with a swagbag of “intellectual property”, including top-secret moves and tactics, is for the most part delusional balderdash.
Cracking the codes for lineouts or strike moves is much more likely to be achieved by the rows of analysts in rugby union bunkers around the world poring over reams of match footage, than a coach giving away a motherlode of trade secrets.
