Prem 2026-27 preview – Bristol Bears: Title odds, key players and squad changes

The Bristol Bears are arguably the most exciting team in the Prem in terms of playing style, a team that isn’t scared to attack.

They have shown that they can beat anybody on their day. The team will be hoping to take the next step this season.

The bookmakers have made their judgement, placing the Bears firmly in the middle of the pack.

But predictions mean little once the first whistle blows, and Pat Lam‘s side will enter the season determined to defy expectations, silence the doubters and force everyone to think again.

Last season

Last season, Bristol played with tremendous intent. They were willing to run the ball from anywhere on the pitch.

The Bears finished sixth last season with 54 points from 11 wins and seven losses.

They put 525 points on the board. However, they struggled defensively, giving up 509 points. This suggests that if the defence tightens up, they could be a play-off team.

Their results were mixed towards the end of the season. Bristol edged Bath 21-19, but lost 94-33 to the Northampton Saints.

These results show the Bears can beat the best, but they need to find consistency. There is no doubt they have the talent to get wins.

Key players and squad changes

Kalaveti Ravouvou brought power, explosiveness and a relentless ability to break through defences.

His 12 tries and 1,084 metres showcased his productivity, but 27 line breaks and a staggering 70 defenders beaten showed just how destructive he could be with the ball in hand.

Louis Rees-Zammit also made an impact, making 950 metres, breaking the line 20 times and beating 52 defenders.

Benhard Janse van Rensburg was a focal point in the midfield. He carried the ball 148 times, made seven try assists and 156 tackles.

In the forward pack, Fitz Harding and Gabriel Oghre are true difference-makers.

There have been some squad changes ahead of the new season. They have brought in players like Josh Caulfield, Sol Moody and Louis Sinclair.

The team has had to deal with some important losses. Players such as Joe Jenkins, Sam Wolstenholm and Rich Lane have left the club.

They have a decent squad and will be in pursuit of improvement.

The odds

Bristol come into the new season at 17/1 odds, suggesting that they are an outside bet for the title.

They have a rough start to the season, with a trip to Sale Sharks, a home game against Northampton, then face Saracens.

It will be fascinating to see what the Bears can do this season.

Bristol have never been afraid to attack, entertain and chase tries from anywhere on the pitch.

Now comes the bigger challenge: turning that attacking brilliance into a sustained title charge.

If the Bears can put all the pieces together, they could become one of the most dangerous teams in the race for the crown.
