Jury is still out on the Red Bull experiment

RED Bull’s franchise experiment with Newcastle took a new turn this week when they announced that 26 players, some of them, like nine-season scrum-half Sam Stuart, with long associations with the club, will depart this summer when their contracts expire.
The new owners will be shipping in a fresh batch of players who are essentially wage mercenaries with no knowledge of Newcastle’s history or culture as a rugby club – unless Red Bull make it a central part of their rebuilding mission.
