South African Rugby Union will hold a strategic planning session with its member unions and directors of rugby to review the current schedule amid growing player welfare concerns.
Their top four clubs play in the URC in alignment with the northern hemisphere while the Springboks still feature in the Rugby Championship in the southern hemisphere, meaning some Test stars are in action all year round.
SA Rugby may decide to withdraw its clubs from European competitions but stressed that any speculation over potential changes is premature.
