When Glastonbury warmed up during The Big Freeze

LONG before his surname became synonymous with a music festival, Ray Glastonbury’s scorch marks could be found all over the north of England, never more so than during his first season in Rugby League.
By the end of it, Workington Town’s signing from Cardiff had touched down into the history book, his 41 tries adding up to the most scored post-war by a Union player during his debut season in League. That the season in question, 1962-63, coincided with the UK’s coldest winter for more than 200 years, made his achievement all the more improbable.
