AT the top of his game circa 1984 when Cardiff succeeded against the Grand Slam Wallabies where England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales all failed, Mark Ring saw gaps before they emerged. Some 40 years on, his knack of staying ahead of the game appears none the worse for the test of time.
The Welsh Rugby Union’s proposal to replace their four regions with what may be two brand new teams sounded strikingly similar to what Ring, below, said about the issue in this column on December 8 last year.
