THERE is at last a sign of sanity in the otherwise befuddled global administration of rugby union in the shape of French rugby’s decision to restore the straight put-in at the scrum this season.
It brings with it a huge opportunity to put an end to the years of obfuscation and procrastination over crooked feeds by World Rugby’s misguided laws committees, and to the collusion of the professional tier of referees in adding to the confusion by joining their paymasters in an ‘open to interpretation’ attitude to written regulations.
