SAINTS boss Phil Dowson praised his team's resilience. He felt Northampton has lost momentum like the previous win over Glasgow but attributed the win to his team's resolve.
“We have the ability to keep going,” he said. “We left it late, but we were helped by our marvellous supporters and had the resilience to see it through.”
Northampton, who travel to Gloucester on Saturday in the Premiership, must wait for injury bulletins on three injured backs. George Hendy was helped off in the 25th minute, due to an ankle knock, and the try-scoring Tom Seabrook followed just after halftime, having injured a leg.
Ollie Sleightholme was also injured in the second half from a heavy challenge, forcing substitute scrum-half Tom James to play out on the wing. Dowson said he hoped Sleightholme would recover quickly and was more concerned for the other two.
Toulon's David Ribbans, back at his former club, said: “We fell short of what was required and paid for a poor first half.”
He also conceded that Toulon, having lost both pool games, now need help in results going their way to reach the last 16.
