Schoeman keen to stay at Bath

Juan Schoeman admits he is fighting for his place in the squad with his current contract running out at the end of the season.

The loosehead arrived at Farleigh House in June 2020 and is in his fourth season at the club.

The 32-year-old brother of fans' favourite, Pierre Schoeman, who made his 50th appearance in last week's defeat at , said: “I am enjoying it here, it is a great environment to be in and I'm trying to improve daily.

“I am hoping to stay on. A lot of players are out of contract so we are fighting for our positions.”

Mike Williams was the only player Schoeman knew when he arrived from the but now he is surrounded by fellow South Africans, notably Thomas du Toit.

But the Springbok's versatility in being able to play both sides of the scrum is not something Schoeman, below, is willing to try in a bid to make himself indispensable.

“I asked him how does it feel because it must be very challenging, particularly switching within a game. I think he is doing a magnificent job,” he said.

“I have tried tighthead before and it doesn't work. The technique is the same in some regards but also the complete opposite in others. I will just focus on what the loosehead does.”
