CANTERBURY were made to battle hard for a victory over injury-hit Westcliff at The Gables.
The home side had to contend with serious front-row problems and a full-strength pack might have produced a different result.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Westcliff had several early opportunities to score, denied only by resolute Canterbury defence.
The visitors soaked up the early pressure and then scored with a well-taken try by Dwayne Corcoran, converted by Ryan Braithwaite.
