Young prop James Whitcombe has followed in his family footsteps by reaching first-team status at Leicester Tigers, a club where his dad Martin made 68 senior appearances in the 1980s.

There is a rich rugby heritage in the family beyond too, with Martin’s grandfather Frank Whitcombe described among the greatest Welsh rugby league forwards.

Last year, Martin Whitcombe published a book called The Indomitables – a book published to mark the 75th anniversary of the 1946 British Rugby League’s tour to Australia and New Zealand.

The book is the most comprehensive and authoritative account of the 1946 British Rugby League tour ever written and delves deep into archives and contemporary newspapers for the full story of the big matches, controversies and oddities of the historic tour.
