Ton-up Quins rip Sharks apart

HARLEQUINS made an emphatic start to their campaign in Gerard Mullen's first game in charge. Mullen's side flew out of the blocks, pinning DMP in their own 22 from a penalty with flanker Sarah Beckett touching down from a driving maul.

Following more sustained pressure, tighthead prop Vickii Cornborough went over and Quins had wrapped up the bonus point when No.8 Jade Konkel and scrum-half Lucy Packer followed suit within 16 minutes.

Quins continued to push hard, giving DMP little in the way of possession or territory, and despite a knock-on just short of the line, Beckett was over from a driving maul once more just moments after wing Jess Breach had crossed for her first try.

Heather Cowell and Chloe Rollie rounded off the first half to take the score to 46-0 at halftime. There was no let-up from Quins after the break, driving DMP off their own ball at a fivemetre scrum, allowing Konkel to touch down at the base for her second of the afternoon.

Impressive tighthead Shaunagh Brown was the next to go over, finishing off a brilliant move including a chip over the top from Beckett, with Lagi Tuima taking on kicking duties and slotting the conversion over. Emily Scott scored the next, followed by Beth Wilcock stepping her way over the line. Abbie Ward grabbed a quickfire double and further tries from Cowell and Breach finished off an emphatic victory for Quins.
