Do we need Union?

I AM a keen rugby fan, love the sport, but reading TRP every week makes me feel it is 60 per cent politics, 30 per cent about our amazing rugby talent and 10 per cent exemplary reporting.
Does the Premiership, PRO14 and multi lower leagues need the unions - are the unions responsible for the sports floundering? Could some well-informed individual tell me why the sport is one step forward and two steps back. Look after this amazing sport for us fans now and future generations.
