Save the red cards for real villains

THERE are many contenders for Rugby’s worst law. The accidental offside law is one and my personal bete noire is allowing a team to power forward 20m in a brilliantly controlled maul and then giving the opposition the put-in when the maul comes to a halt for a moment or goes to ground.
And now we have another contender – the experimental red card substitute law being introduced in the forthcoming Super Rugby Aotearoa.
