Alun Wyn Jones to stay in Wales with Ospreys

The Ospreys record appearances holder to carry on in Swansea

Grand Slam-winning captain Alun Wyn Jones is set to stay with the and the Welsh Rugby Union by signing a new deal.

Named as the 2019 Six Nations player of the championship on Friday, Jones will extend his current National Dual Contract beyond the Rugby World Cup and will commit to the Ospreys.

According to WalesOnline, clubs in England, France and Japan were ready to offer the 33-year-old a big payday. But he will stay with the PRO14 side with who he holds the record number of appearances for (236).

The British & Irish Lion reached 125 caps for Wales in their remarkable 25-7 victory over Ireland to seal the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown.

Include his nine Test caps for the Lions earned on tours to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and Jones’ 134 Test caps leaves him 14 away from rugby’s all-time appearances record holder Richie McCaw.

Jones is doubtful to play again for the Ospreys this season after sustaining a knee ligament strain during the match against Ireland, although he did manage to play through the injury to finish the match.

The Ospreys have placed tender hopes on his availability for their Judgement Day clash with Cardiff Blues on April 27.
