Gareth’s right to call a halt to brown envelopes in grassroots

I WAS pleased to see Welsh Rugby Union chairman Gareth Davies urge grassroots clubs in Wales to stop paying their players.
The pandemic has left lots of teams in financial trouble, but even before coronavirus hit I’ve long been of the belief there should be no money available at amateur level.
I can understand why salaries should be on offer in the semi-professional Welsh Premiership as there are players there – mainly ex-regional and international stars – who can offer a lot.
