Don’t ban booze, just the tray carriers

THE alcohol-free zone at the Millennium Stadium is to be ‘enhanced and upgraded’ next season, a permanent fixture at Welsh matches with effect from the Barbarians match in November. Not for the first time, the Welsh Rugby Union have taken the soft option.
They could have chosen to meet the issue head-on and banned spectators from carrying trays of beer to their seats, a source of annoyance to non-drinkers who have complained about drunken behaviour.
Instead, the Union has made do with the halfmeasure of a 4,200-seater ‘dry’ zone in the North Stand.
