■ Edinburgh produced another uplifting performance after their loss to Bath last week and gained a huge psychological boost by beating an under strength Newcastle, who they’ll meet in the Champions Cup this December.
Two tries by centre Matt Scott and Jamie Farndale as well as 11 points from Jaco van der Walt’s boot was the difference in a slow burning game.
Edinburgh were forced into a late change when Dougie Fife dropped out due to tonsillitis. Tom Brown shifted from wing to full-back, with Scotland Sevens star Jamie Farndale filling the No 14 jersey.
