Thompson stars as Blue and Blacks power to triumph

CARDIFF put an end to a run of three consecutive defeats with a convincing victory over Newport in the Principality Premiership at the Cardiff Arms Park.
Full-back Dan Fish put the hosts ahead after collecting a clever pass from loosehead prop Rhys Carre, with an 11th-minute try and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Captain Gareth Thompson added the conversion.
Newport replied with a well-taken Haydn Simons penalty but Cardiff kicker Thompson hit back with a penalty of his own.
