HULL Ionians threw themselves a lifeline with this hard-fought five-point win over Cambridge.
The visitors, inspired by the inventive half-back partnership of Stefan Liebenberg and Jack Green, took an early lead with tries from centre James Ayrton and Jake McCloud. Ionians learnt their lesson and responded with a try for James Sanderson, following good work from Callum Irvine and Phil Eggleshaw.
