Mehrtens calls for radical changes to ‘stupid’ system

FORMERAll Black fly-half Andrew Mehrtens believes New Zealand should focus their domestic structure o their own timezone and ditch South African and Argentinian franchises.
Mehrtens, who played 70 Tests for New Zealand between 1995 and 2004, has called for a radical change amid the confusion surrounding next year’s Super Rugby format. Mehrtens suggests more radical changes are required than merely ditching three franchises and reverting to Super XV, “I think the competition is stupid at the moment,” Mehrtens said.
