Gloucester CEO keen not to lose best players after win over Saracens

Gloucester are already at work on recruitment for next season, says Stephen Vaughan

By Adam Ellis
maintained their unbeaten home run at the weekend with victory over Saracens at Kingsholm and the club’s chief executive Stephen Vaughan was quick to say future results would only be achievable if they can tie up new deals with their star players.
In addition to Ross Moriarty, who has been linked with a move to PRO14 region in recent weeks, centre Henry Trinder and hooker Motu Matu’u are out of contract at the end of the season.
“We’re definitely getting better. We’re not going to go over the top with how good we are just yet,” Vaughan told BBC Radio Gloucestershire, having watched tries from Ollie Thorley and Tom Hudson seal a 23-17 victory.
Vaughan added that while other competitors in the Premiership are making moves in preparation for next season, Gloucester were constructing plans of their own.
“I try not to speculate on rumour and gossip because there’s a lot of it around and most of it is utter nonsense,” Vaughan said.
“We’re extremely active. I don’t think it’s right to be commenting on other people, but in terms of our own players, we’re working very hard to secure the ones we want to keep here.
“We’ve done a lot of work to secure some great additions for next season.”
With talks between Welsh international Moriarty and Dragons said to be at an advanced stage, Gloucester can at least be buoyed by the continuing development of 21-year-old back row Ruan Ackermann who was deservedly named man of the match against Sarries.
