London Welsh statement on financial situation

Rugby Club can confirm that the publicised investment in to the Club from a Californian-based group has unfortunately failed to materialise as promised.
“No money whatsoever has been forthcoming in this regard.
“Following a recent review of the Club’s financial situation the initial conclusion of the London Welsh board, as stated by RFU director of professional rugby Nigel Melville, is that clubs operating with English rugby’s second tier, the Greene King IPA Championship, must operate in a sustainable way.
“A full and comprehensive strategic review of the Club’s future is therefore now underway and all options are currently on the table.
“The Club’s board are open to approach by any parties or individuals interested in taking London Welsh forward.
“Since the league’s inception in 2009/10, Championship clubs have provided a valuable talent incubator for developing players on a track to playing in the Aviva Premiership, and for England.
“It is the belief of the London Welsh board that the league has a vital role to play and can continue to do so in the future.”
