Worcester stun Northampton in season opener

A last gasp-drop goal from Tom Heathcote helped Worcester celebrate their return to the Premiership with 13-12 win over Northampton last night.
The Warriors led 10-6 after captain GJ van Velze went over and Heathcote kicked five points.
Stephen Myler slotted two second-half penalties and thought he had won it for Saints two minutes from time but Heatcote made up for three misses from the tee with the winning drop-goal in stoppage time.
Up in Newcastle, a dominant first-half sent Gloucester to a 39-27 success.
The Cherry and Whites scored two first-half tries through Matt Kvesic and Charlie Sharples but it was Billy Twelvetrees’ five penalties that helped them build a comfortable 27-3 half-time lead.
The Falcons rallied in the second half and saw Simon Hammersley, Chris Harris and George McGuigan cross but Twelvetrees added four penalties to secure an important win on the road for Gloucester.
Harlequins also made a winning start to their season on the back of a 26-21 victory against Wasps.
Nick Evans was the star of the show scoring 21 points including a try while George Lowe also went over.
Wasps had Jake Cooper-Woolley score while Elliot Daly’s late try rescued the losing bonus-point.
