Dream Team: Mike Teague – former Lions, England, Gloucester and Cardiff flanker

Mike Teague1. David Sole – He was outstanding for the Lions. Fit and strong and one of those guys who could still be a top player today.
2. Sean Fitzpatrick – I could fill this with all my mates but Sean was one of the hardest guys to play against. Just a natural born leader who typified that relentless All Black attitude.
3. Jason Leonard – Came into the side in 1990 as a young lad. An amazing player who could play either side and you forget how mobile he was.
4.Wade Dooley – Such a strong, abrasive lock. I played with some good ones but Wade was the enforcer. He was up to the mark and great to have on your team.
5.Martin Johnson – When he came into the squad I ran full tilt at him in training and hit him. When we got up I pushed him and he came straight back at me – it was the look in his eyes.  Such an inspirational leader in 2003 World Cup.
6.Michael Jones – One of the greatest ever flankers so got to get him in. He was a very quick and talented player. When you look for a flanker you want all his attributes – he was phenomenal.
7.Peter Winterbottom – Had an illustrious career and was one of the few guys playing as well at the end of it as at the beginning. Was a great calming influence with outstanding tackling ability.
8.Dean Richards – An iconic rugby player – few men can slow a game down to their pace as well as he did. Fantastic off the pitch too, apart from kicking the Calcutta Cup around.
9.Terry Holmes – He made life easy for the back row at Cardiff. Very strong and was the first guy we all wanted on the teamsheet. He was world-class but never got the plaudits he deserved.
10.Jonathan Davies – One of his last games of union was against Gloucester for Llanelli and the third time he stepped me I gave up. Anyone good enough to go from union to league and back is some player.
11.Ray Mordt – A little elephant in a man’s body. I saw in him in SA last year and he looks like he could still play, at 60. Some player.
12.Philippe Sella – What do you expect from your backs? Skill and pace and he had that. Probably the most complete French back, which speaks volumes. Classy player.
13.Jeremy Guscott – The first time I played with Jerry was against Romania over there. I remember running behind him and he had that ability to float – with three tacklers coming he’d just step and find another level.
14.Rory Underwood – Just had an ability to score tries when you gave him the ball. Some of them were unbelievable. I saw him from the U23s right the way through and he was brilliant.
15.Gavin Hastings – Unbelievably quick and strong, he had everything you want from a full-back. I played with him for the Lions in ‘89 and he was an amazing player and fantastic guy off the pitch.
