London Welsh will not change name

will not be called the Oxford Welsh despite announcing they're leaving their spiritual home of Old Deer Park for Oxford earlier this week.
Following the announcement, they were rumours a name change could be on the cards for the Exiles but a club statement issued today assured this would not be the case.
The statement read: “London Welsh RFC would like to respond to recent reports in the media that the club is considering a change of name by categorically stating that it has no plans to make any such change.
“London Welsh has made a commitment to Oxfordshire by continuing to play its home games at the Kassam Stadium and moving its off the field administration to Oxford, but efforts to integrate the club into Oxfordshire do not extend to a change of name.
“The name of London Welsh RFC is one of the most recognisable in world and the club and has been in existence since 1885.
“The club is extremely disappointed by the inaccurate reporting in some sections of the media stemming from a recent interview given by London Welsh chairman Bleddyn Phillips, despite the subject of a name change being unequivocally ruled out in said interview.
“London Welsh hopes this statement will allay any concerns among its supporters, and that the focus can return to Sunday's top of the table Greene King IPA fixture with at the Kasaam, as the club looks to maintain its 100 per cent start to the season.”
