Richard Sharp, the pride of Cornwall

ON a damp Thursday afternoon in January 1960 with a Cornish mist hiding Carn Brae, a small group of local Redruth schoolboys were kicking a heavy leather rugby ball around the field behind their houses when news swept the town that our local hero Richard Sharp had gone to London to play for England.
We timidly knocked on the door of the Sharp household to be informed by Mrs Sharp that Richard’s call up was only a precaution because of an injury to Bev Risman and he was unlikely to play against Wales on Saturday.
