Sorry, but I can’t find ‘materiality’ in the law book

I AGREE with Mr Rowden (letters, October 23) that no referee deliberately manufactures situations to even up games. But I do believe he needs to look at the evidence.
Referee behaviour changes as the games near their conclusion. What is penalised early in the game is ignored towards the end, where the referee appears to be in the mindset of not wanting to decide the outcome of the game, by making, non calls.
But that is the reason he is there, to make those calls, equitably throughout the 80 minutes.
