Rampaging Pask, ahead of his time

ALUN Pask rampaged through the Sixties, a No.8 whose high-octane athleticism and ball skills made him stand out as a player far ahead of his time. Those who remember him in the green-and-white of Abertillery and the red of Wales never understood why the Lions failed to make him their first Welsh captain for the New Zealand tour of 1966, preferring Scotland’s Mike Campbell-Lamerton who was unable to hold his Test place.
A great player and the nicest of men, Alun Pask lost his life in a fire at his home in Blackwood 30 years ago yesterday.
