Tom Pittman landed in the Test arena on the Canadian prairie the other week at the end of a leap which would have astounded the longest of all long jumpers, Bob Beamon.
Nobody could conceivably have taken a more implausibly roundabout route to an international cap than the centre from Taunton who once played alongside another newly-capped Test centre, Max Ojomoh, during their time in the Bath academy.
