Reunited with a piece of history

ANNIVERSARY dinners not only see old stories dusted down and recycled, the Cardiff Met shindig saw the reemergence of the oldest and possibly most valuable sporting trophy in Wales.
The South Wales Challenge Cup was struck in 1876 and awarded to the first winner of the Welsh championship, which was Newport.
During World War 1 it was placed in a bank vault and after hostilities ended the WRU presented it to Horace Lyne when he stepped down as WRU President after 40 years.
