‘Hybrid’ Championship idea must not be given green light

IT is good to see that the concept of an English Cup competition, pitching Championship clubs against Premiership ‘A’ teams, that was suggested in this column last year has eventually been picked up and run with by Conor O’Shea, the RFU’s rugby performance director.
It has been presented by O’Shea as a means of revitalising the club game below the Premiership and restoring the links between the top division and the aspiring clubs below it – and not before time.
