ON the 1955 tour to South Africa, Cliff Morgan was absolutely key to the Lions prospects and although not one to throw his toys out of the pram – quite the contrary in fact – used his charm to get exactly what he wanted.
From the off he had identified the durable uncapped Northampton youngster Dickie Jeeps, who could absorb the hits of big Boks forwards and tidy up untidy ball before passing, as the scrum-half he wanted in the Tests ahead of the more highly-rated Jonny Williams and Angus Fraser.
