Rayer given bigger war chest to turn Blues around

BEDFORD Blues chairman Geoff Irvine has opened his cheque book and released more funds to help DoR Mike Rayer bolster his squad. Key departures in the summer, a horrendous injury list and failed dual registration deals have conspired to put the Blues in the unusual position of looking over their shoulder at the wrong end of the Championship table.
Heading into the festive period, they are 11th with one win to their name – against bottom-club Yorkshire Carnegie – and two places and four points adrift of their Boxing Day opponents, Ampthill.
