Lions need a compromise

THE continuing scheduling conflict between club and international rugby has trapped the 2021 Lions in the straightjacket of a five-week, eight-match tour.
This is due to the Premiership clubs refusing a formal Lions request to bring the 2020-21 Premiership final forward so coach Warren Gatland gets a further week to prepare for South Africa.
The main sticking point is the clubs’ unhappiness with Lions’ plans to stage a multi-million pound warm-up Test at Twickenham on July 3 because of the extra demands it places on the players.
