Tours gave us an extra weapon to our armour

MALCOLM Foulkes-Arnold believes the foundations for Leicester Tigers' first-ever title success were laid in preseason – not on the training pitch but on their biannual tour abroad.
Throughout the Eighties, starting in 1980, when they toured Australia and Fiji, Leicester took themselves abroad on pre-season tours that also served as ideal preparation for the rigours of the season ahead.
And 1987 was no exception, their season effectively starting on August 2 when they took on Western Australia, losing 26-19 before beating Western Australia President’s XV 28-10.
