Springboks in 7 Nations? That’s plain daft Sir Ian!

Writing in the Telegraph last week, Sir Ian McGeechan called for there to be a Seven Nations tournament rather than the current Six, with the addition of South Africa to the fold. With the greatest of respect to one of the game’s all-time legends, it’s a while since I’ve heard anything so daft!
Had he said that Italy should be removed and replaced with the Springboks, that wouldn’t have been quite so bad, although bearing in mind the pressures on the rugby calendar, the seven weeks that the current tournament takes is already at least one week too long.
