FORMER England
Sevens international Richard de Carpenter looks set to be offered a career lifeline with a short term contract at Quins. The former Leicester Tigers, Worcester Warriors and Nottingham flanker has been looking for a club since the RFU cut their Sevens funding, dumping 18 centrally contracted players.
De Carpenter, 30, who captained England and Wasps prop Kieran Brookes while they were at school, was the RPA England Sevens Player of the Year in 2017 after missing out on the World Cup 12 months earlier.
Quins announced on Friday that they had signed Bedford Blues loosehead prop Joe Wrafter, who has been capped by England Counties after starting out in Worcester Warriors Academy.
Geordan off in a hurry
EVEN Blindside was surprised to see Geordan Murphy sacked by Leicester Tigers on Friday. We reported last Sunday that the genial Irishman was fighting to save his job, but we didn't know he had only five days left in it after a total of 23 years at Welford Road!
