Maro Itoje has revealed how the hangover from captaining England to two consecutive losses hit him in the aftermath of the drubbing by Ireland two weeks ago.

Itoje’s side backed up defeat in the Calcutta Cup match with another devastating defeat, 42-21 to the Irish, then had two weeks to stew on it before yesterday’s game with Italy.
The skipper had his 100th England cap celebrations ruined at Twickenham and then had to wait a fortnight for another game while mulling over that reverse.
And Itoje said it was tough to clear his mind ahead of resetting for the clash in Rome.
