Scotland crashed to defeat in Rome yesterday to heap more pressure on head coach Gregor Townsend ahead of Saturday’s Calcutta Cup showdown with England.

Townsend’s position was already under scrutiny after defeats to both Argentina and New Zealand in the autumn.
After watching his side fall to an 18-15 loss at Stadio Olimpico, Townsend insisted he is still the right man to lead Scotland through to the 2027 World Cup.
Asked if he expects to be in charge for next Saturday’s match, he said: “I want to be and that’s my job. That’s what I’m focused on.
